AMEK Creates Open Concept Dream Home After Wayzata Fire

We want it all, right?  For a Wayzata couple, the dream came true after sustaining fire damage to their home. They yearned for modern design elements – open concept floor plan, exquisite kitchen design, four-season porch, and a luxurious master bedroom suite. Plus, they desired to do it while maintaining the original New England style they love.

AMEK designers started with a clean slate after the two-level saltbox home was gutted following an electrical fire. By adding a fully functioning butler’s pantry and built-ins for the mini-library and dining room, AMEK designers were able to remain true to the original architecture while still incorporating state-of-the-art features like an open concept layout, commercial grade appliances, and modern technology. Four additions were designed to maximize living space inside and out.

There is beautiful site-finished oak flooring, quartz and granite countertops, plus the custom millwork and cabinetry. Overall, the home boasts more and larger windows to bring in more light. In addition, the homeowners and designers focused on continuity throughout the home repeating specific elements, such as subway tile and slate, in different rooms and levels.

The expanded master bedroom suite shows off luxurious style with a gas fireplace, free-standing soaking tub, and his ‘n’ hers closets. The four-season porch with walls of windows and a gas fireplace is an inviting addition just off the living room and kitchen. A new front entrance portico welcomes guests and a backyard porch encourages everyone to stay and relax.
