For the Fall 2016 Remodelers Showcase, AMEK Custom Builders proudly presents its recent lower level project. Organized by the Builders Association of the Twin Cities (BATC), this event on September 30-October 2 provides homeowners an opportunity to tour the latest trends in remodeling and home design.
As the AMEK design team worked with this Bloomington client, the ultimate goal was making the unfinished basement area focused on their family’s interests. In order to optimize the space, the roughed-in bathroom plumbing and several support walls were moved. The results are clearly aimed for active use for all ages. As you arrive to the bottom of the stairs, art niches grace the curved wall inviting you to the creative space beyond.
Mandarin orange accents cheerfully announce this bright, well-lit space is meant for recreation. The area under the stairs naturally pulls you in to read your latest book or to relax and dream. This reading nook includes shelves, reading light and a curtain for more seclusion. For the artistic members of the family, there is a crafting table highlighted with a nearby a display area to show off the finest artworks. Now you see it and now you don’t – two innovative orange doors can cover the wall TV and reveal artwork on the sides of the TV alcove. You will want to see it for yourself! The snack kitchen sports a mini fridge and freezer, microwave, dishwasher, sink and serving island to fulfill anyone’s appetite for movie night or for a long crafting session.
To keep the crafts organized, there is a craft storage room with playful checkerboard tiles right off the main room. The yoga room down the short hall features a cork floor which provides natural cushioning plus a new window to allow more sunlight in while working out. A small guest room is complete with a window bench to handle out-of-town guests or a sleepover for one of the tweens. The efficient bathroom with shower now fits in by the bedroom and yoga room. Finishing off the footprint of the basement is what we all long for – more storage space!
The family with growing kids is excited to have designated space to create, move, read, and watch movies. Come see how AMEK can customize your space for your family! Show hours: Friday, September 30 1 – 7 p.m.; Saturday, October 1 Noon – 6 p.m., Sunday, October 2 Noon – 6 p.m.
