Focus on Connections to Nature and Family & Friends Bloomington Remodel
For the Spring 2017 Remodelers Showcase, AMEK Custom Builders proudly presents its recent whole house remodeling project. Organized by the Builders Association of the Twin Cities (BATC), this event on March 31 – April 2 provides homeowners an opportunity to tour the latest trends in remodeling and home design.
Given the opportunity to rearrange their home’s 1979 floor plan, our AMEK team partnered with this Edina empty-nester couple to make significant changes to create a beautiful open layout for entertaining and soaking in the natural light. Who wouldn’t want a new kitchen with a butler’s pantry, a renovated owners’ suite, flex room, drop zone, dog-washing station, and gorgeous deck? Gutted to the studs; rooms, walls, floors, windows, and mechanicals were shifted to optimize space based on the wish list. Come see how this transitional design changes everything – in a good way!
Basically, starting from scratch, this project was launched due to a kitchen fire that caused extensive smoke and water damage. Even the exterior received its own update with a new entryway, siding, windows, roof, garage door, and stone work. The refreshed curb appeal has a warm, stately feeling as you walk up to the front door.
Once inside, the new floor plan on the main level is well suited to everyday comforts as well as entertaining family and friends. Some of the favorite spots are sitting at the kitchen island for morning coffee and playing a game of pool after dinner in the flex room. Come summer, the new deck that connects to the living room area might be the best place to relax.
A grand piano and a gas fireplace with a transitional Bolection cast stone surround grace the main living space that is centered between the flex room and deck featuring built-in benches and planters. On the way to the kitchen is a built-in buffet and small dining table perfect for hosting family gatherings. Beautifully lit with natural light, the spacious kitchen boasts plenty of organized storage with an adjoining pantry and butler’s pantry.
Filling out the main level are well-designed practical elements to enhance daily life. A built-in drop zone near the private garage entrance is ideal for staying organized between work and home. Just off the door to the backyard is the mudroom complete with a dog-washing station plus spots for boots and coats.
On the second-story landing, a relaxing lounge was added by bumping out the roof line over the front entry. It’s the perfect spot to be cozy with a favorite book or movie. The owner’s suite was designed to be a retreat with a soothing midnight blue wall color in the bedroom and with a corner free-standing soaking tub in the bathroom. A walk-through closet with custom shelving connects with the savvy laundry room. Two additional bedrooms with decorative walls and another bathroom balance out the second level.
The lower level is on hold – for now. A walkout family room, bedroom, bathroom and additional space are partially framed in awaiting the next phase.
This Edina family who is featured in the Remodelers Showcase Guidebook are so happy to back home with their dogs. They are excited to share their home with you. Come see how AMEK can work within an existing footprint and can create a whole new lifestyle for your family. Remodelers Showcase hours are noon to 6 p.m. on Friday, March 31, Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2.
